The Abbey Hotel Roscommon takes its name from the 13th Century Roscommon Abbey, whose ruins can be seen from the Hotel. This Dominican Abbey was founded in 1253 by Felim O'Connor, the last High King of Connacht, and its purpose was to provide food and shelter for travelers.
